fter two years of gathering virtually, it is safe to say we were all excited to be back in person. ASAE Annual 2022 in Nashville was highly anticipated and it certainly did not disappoint.
The theme of the conference was, appropriately, Opportunity = Disruption.
The pandemic forced everyone to think differently. Associations that never offered virtual conferences and learning opportunities found ways to stand up new Learning Management Systems and offer educational opportunities quickly. Organizations that had always required in-person exams implemented virtual proctoring for certifications. It was truly inspiring to see how associations became so agile and experimental so quickly. We talked quite a bit about this in our Actual Disruption webinar series.
Over the past few years, associations got a taste of how inventive they can be and more opportunities are presenting themselves in the industry. Many of the session topics centered around being innovative with technology, trying new things and using the mountains of available data to better engage members (and non-members).
But “doing better” with technology wasn’t the only theme. A major focus was on doing better with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and integrating DEI initiatives across all programming and offerings. As the association space continues to grow and change, association leaders are ensuring that all people feel welcomed.
The Association Podcast team also got a chance to get together with other podcasters at the Hive and hear about the things they have been presenting to their audiences.
We want to give a special shoutout to our friends at Delcor for organizing a meet-up and encouraging the spirit of continuous learning that makes the association industry such a rewarding environment to be a part of.
Thanks again to ASAE for putting on such an incredible event. We can’t wait for next year in Atlanta!
